I'm Going to College!

It feels silly to blog about this when the only people who read my blog are people who already know, but...

I'm going to Clemson!

On Thursday I committed to Calhoun Honors College at Clemson University. Go Tigers!

Looking back now that I've made things official, Clemson was always going to be the one. My sister graduated from there, so I've grown up visiting her and the school and the area. I remember touring it with her when she was starting to look at schools and thinking, "I hope she goes here," and that comfortable feeling never went away. I'm so excited to experience the school for myself.

I have no idea what I'm going to major in yet, because as this mishmash blog demonstrates, I'm interested in pretty much everything. I have FOMO on knowledge.

My family and I have been celebrating the decision in the way we know best: food!

One of the things I grew up loving about Clemson was their student-run ice cream shop, the '55 Exchange. I've blogged about how they make the ice cream. Now, I'll be able to fulfill my dream of trying every single flavor. My mom made her own version of their signature flavor, the Golden Tiger: salted caramel ice cream with salted caramel and fudge swirls. My mom's the greatest.

I made a Clemson tiger paw smoothie bowl. The smoothie part is nice cream of banana, passionfruit, dragonfruit, and Big Stupid Lug of Frozen Mango(ok so my Grandma visited a few months ago and bought a ton of mangoes and blended them all into a big mango smoothie and froze it to use in chunks, but she left some and I didn't realize it for a while and now it's one big rock hard lug and almost impossible to blend so when I make a smoothie I put the Big Stupid Lug of Frozen Mango in the blender, let it chonk around a little, then take it out again and hope some shards of mango came off in the smoothie. No offense to Grandma, if she's reading this. Love you, Grandma). I swirled pureed blueberries on top for a purple swirl, then added some grapes for more purple and also because yum. Then, I used a cookie- I will be blogging about these honey cookies soon!- and dollops of peanut butter to make the paw.

I'm excited for college, but I'm also thankful I have more time at home right now.
I don't mean to say I'm thankful for the widespread suffering of this pandemic, but I am grateful for what it has given me: this slow, quiet time with my family. I cherish days like today: a morning of waterskiing and a pod of dolphins passing right by the boat, a Zoom ballet class, baking bread and desserts with my mom, and at night a big noisy Zoom with various extended family. I love afternoon walks to the river and I love being here to give Earthquake belly rubs at any time of day. I'm excited for the collegiate future that extends ahead of me like a Bilbo-esque adventure, but I'm glad I have a little more time in The Shire.

As usual, I await your fervent praise via email, in the comments below, or on Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok.

World peace and love,

Heather <3
