I'm Learning Elvish Slowly But Surely (This is a post about fitness)

If you'd asked me a last month what I planned to do this summer, I would have replied that I wanted to dance every day. But after getting an MRI to figure out what the heck was going on with my knee, I found out I had a tear in my meniscus. Rather than operating, the doctor suggested treating it as an overuse injury and not dancing, skiing, running, or anything else that probably caused it in the first place, for three weeks.

One of my first thoughts was how out of shape I was going to get. I have the appetite of Captain America, and I rely on dance, or some sort of cardio, to keep those calories burning. But I realized that if I focused on my core and arms, my upper body, I could stay in shape.

I see a lot of fitness bloggers posting these crazy workouts with a crapload of expensive equipment, that may or may not include a gym membership, probably a gold premium membership, if there is such a thing. It's frustrating to see stuff like that, because it makes you think that there's no hope for you to ever stay fit unless you have 20 different sizes, colors, and brands of medicine balls, yoga balls, rice balls, and yoga pants. I like to think that this is not true.

Here's what I've been doing at home daily to stay fit without aggravating my knees:
100 to 200 crunches
50 leg lifts per each leg
25 sit ups
Swim freestyle 1/4 mile
25 pushups (I've been doing the "easy" kind of push-up because the normal kind hurts my knees. I've been told they're not as effective, but it's got to be better than nothing.)
10 (1 pound)weight pumps per each arm

I don't pretend to be a fitness guru-I'm about as far from it as can be- but this has been great for me! I recommend this workout, even if your knees are in top condition. It's quick and easy to get used to, plus you can do most everything just laying at home. Don't have access to a pool? Add some more weight pumps to the schedule. Don't have weights? A can of food will work just as well.

Savo 'lass a lalaith(have joy and laughter),
Heather
